As the season draws closer, the tension is starting to build with supporters already dreaming of that grand finish in May next year.
But before we celebrate, there is a whole host of emotions that we can expect; such as excitement, anger, confusion, on the edge moments and if you are a Arsenal and Liverpool fans, disappointments.
Recently, Manchester United boarded this train, but after securing the signings of some really good players, I think fortunes are just about to change at the Theatre of Dreams.
Since the departure of the arguably one of the greatest managers this league has ever seen, Sir Alex Ferguson, the club has struggled to live up to their past glory, with Manchester City, the blue half of Manchester having taken over the hot seat.
The blue and red halves met last weekend as we officially kicked off yet another season of English Premier League football.
With a string of mixed pre-season friendly fixtures behind us, it’s time for things to get serious and the Community Shield, which sees the league winners playing the FA Cup winners, is always a good indication that things are about to get real.
GoalMOUTH thinks maybe this is the season when it will finally be hard to put your money on your own team because this competition is always improving.
The smaller clubs have been showing that they able to match the big boys and also secure big name signings. Ever since the Saudi’s took over Newcastle United, it was evident that clubs were going to try and match this by securing themselves the financial backing to either match the big boys or stay in touching distance.
It doesn’t always work out though because look at Newcastle, who invested millions after securing Champions League football after several years of being absent in the tournament.
Fans could not believe it, but Eddie Howe had led them to a Champions League, which lasted only in the group and ended in shambles.
Nottingham Forest on the other hand managed to secure promotion and then got rid of their whole squad the minute they made a return to the Premier League.
Millions invested to a squad that soon lost it’s manager and also its way, as injuries kicked in and the team really started taking a beating, at the back end of millions that was spent.
So everybody tries to buy their success in a different way, but not everybody can pull off what the famous Galacticos (Real Madrid) has done over the years and up until today, very little can explain their methods, but most will tell you, “very good business”.
Ronaldo, Mbappe, Beckham, Zidane and the list continues, multi million pound or Euro deals, that never failed the club.
Problem now is that average players are coming in at huge prices and a new trend is seeing these big names come in, get injured and never return to form.
Okay hold on, that sounds more like life at Manchester United, who now sit with another multi million pound injury, after the latest signing, Leny Yoro, required surgery on his foot and his out for a few months.
Rasmus Holjund joined United soon became injured, same with Tyrell Malacia and also Mason Mount, who was once tipped to be an England great. Not so great to know that, especially after his performances have not been great at all, leaving Mason with a Mountain to climb — get it?
It’s been widely reported that. especially at United, baloon prices are a thing and our summer signing from Ajax, Antony, was proof of that. Singing Harry Maguire at 80 million pounds, simply ridiculous, but it goes to show how crazy this transfer market has become.
You can kick a ball straight and your name has a zing to it, you are suddenly worth a few million, until you arrive at the club and read the fine print which says, “Check your change before you leave. No returns”.
There is no doubt that this season will be on fire and we will see more than a few surprises. Strap yourselves in and watch as Manchester United reclaim their famous spot as Kings of England.
