Roos Court's oldest resident mourned

Residents of Roos Court in Parkwood are in mourning after their oldest neighbour, Mavis Smith, 97, died last Tuesday, February 25.

Ms Smith's son, Lionel, said his mother had lived in Parkwood for 52 years. 

He said his mother was a loving person.

"She brought us up the right way - to respect others."

Part of Ms Smith’s upbringing was in Bo-Kaap. She and her husband Cecil lived in Athlone where eight children were born. Cecil died in 2008.

They had 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Ms Smith's funeral will be held on Saturday March 8 at Palm Tree Church, in Military Road, Steenberg, at 8.30am.
