Despite facing a number of challenges, Hanover Park Netball Association and other districts affiliated to Cape Flats District Netball, are pulling out all the stops to allow youngsters the opportunity to showcase their skill on the courts opposite the sports complex on the corner of Downberg and Lonedown roads.

“We are 11 clubs and expect more clubs to come on board once all the paperwork is completed, says chairperson Chantel Daames.

She said that currently they have under -9, under-11, under-13, under-15, senior teams and mixed teams taking part in weekly matches.

Donegal Netball Club’s Shaylin Daniels looks to spread the ball during her side’s match against Athlone’s Backstreets Netball Club.

“We also have 40 children travelling to Mitchell’s Plain on Fridays, to take part in the Sporting Chance Street Netball league,” she said.

“The safety of the children is our main priority. We have six courts to play on but there are potholes on the courts and that is a big concern for us,” she said.

Also, there are no fences around the courts, which increases the risk of injury, especially when the ball goes over the road,” she said.
