Goal scorer, Tyla Gloyne, 19, has been with the club for the past 10 years. She scored a penalty at the weekend to help Tramway beat Lavender Hill 1-0 in the WRPL.
A second half goal by Tyla Gloyne was the decider between Tramway Football Club and Lavender Hill in a Women’s Regional Promotional League match at the Rooikraans sports complex on Sunday, August 18.
It was the Tramway women’s first team’s second win of the weekend, including a three-point walkover against Helderberg Rovers on Saturday.
Gloyne netted the goal after her side won a penalty.
The game was relatively even throughout, with both teams scraping for possession.
Head of women and girls at Tramway, Harold “Potz” Johnson said they are happy with the development of the young squad.
Tramway had five under-14 girls in their team, three of which made a debut at the weekend.
Zara Adams, 14, Zara Mohamed, 14, and Bela Koeries, 11, made their debuts against Lavender Hill, while Cianno Alfino, 12, and Mia Munro, 13, gained some good experience on the field.
While in fourth position of the log, Johnson said the back-to-back wins are a confidence booster ahead of their challenge against log leaders, Dangerous Heroes, at home, on Friday, August 23. In their opening match, Heroes were 2-1 victors at Brown’s Farm in Philippi.
“The results are important but the development is more important than the results. Everybody wants to be a better player. We have to guide the youngsters and make sure we constantly have girls coming through. We literally have to give them the platform. A couple of weeks ago we played against an unbeaten Young Diplomats and we beat them 1-0,” he said.
Coach Johnson was also pleased with the results of the under-12 and under-14 teams at the weekend, picking up a 3-0 and 6-0 win against Camps Bay and Wynberg St Johns, respectively.
The under-12 and under-14 sides are preparing for the girls’ premier division league knockout semi-finals later on Saturday August 31.
