Greenwood Athletic Football Club’s 4-0 win over Santos Football Club in the under-18 semi-finals saw them secure a spot in the Cape District Local Football Association (CDFA) knockout final.
Greenwood beat Santos in the semi-finals, at the William Herbert sports complex, on Saturday, October 5.
They will play the knockout final against Salt River Blackpool, who beat Ashford United 1-0, this past weekend.
Under-18 coach, Chadwin Lotters said they’ve worked hard, throughout the season to reach the finals, in Wynberg, on Saturday October 12.
“The knockout trophy is important to us as it will serve as a testament to the hard work and dedication the boys have put in this season. We faced a tough path to the final, overcoming strong teams like Grassy Park and Santos, who have both performed exceptionally well this year. Our under-18 team sets an example for the younger players and winning is crucial to demonstrate that hard work leads to success,” said Lotters.
From the 11 teams that participated in the semi-finals last weekend, Greenwood have seven that reached the upcoming finals.
“We have seven teams competing in the finals on Saturday. This achievement is not a matter of luck; our structure, tenacity, determination, and ability to overcome challenges have brought us to this point. It’s up to our players and coaches to make the community proud by winning. Saturday will be a significant day and we invite friends and family to come out, support us, and take pride in what our club has accomplished,” said Lotters.
The CDFA Knockout finals start as early as 8.30am, at the William Herbert sports complex, on Saturday October 12.
