Ashford’s under-10 side were crowned winners of the CDFA Knockout finals after a 1-0 win over Greenwood Athletic in Wynberg on Saturday, October 12.

Ashford Athletic Football Club’s clubhouse at Sweet Home Way will need a new shelf for the seven trophies their team brought back from the Cape District Football Association (CDFA) Knockout finals at the weekend.

Ashford celebrated a remarkable achievement on Saturday, October 12, winning seven CDFA Knockout trophies in front of a vibrant crowd at the William Herbert Sports Ground.

The day kicked off with the under-10 Red team, which started their winning streak with a decisive 3-0 victory over Montague Spurs. The under-10 Orange team followed suit, securing a narrow 1-0 win against Greenwood Athletic. The under-12 Orange team continued the momentum, edging out Santos Football Club 3-2, while the under-16 Orange side clinched a 1-0 victory over Blue Bells B.

In the afternoon, the First Division team faced a tense match against Salt River Blackpool, ultimately winning 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw. The Second Division team added to the success with a 3-2 victory over Blue Bells, and the over-35 team triumphed 2-1 against Blue Bells C in the Knockout finals.

Established in 1969 by John “Spikes” Neethling and Albert Brown, Ashford Athletic AFC is a well-respected brand within Cape Town's football community.

The club was founded to channel the energy of the Heathfield youth in a meaningful way.

Coach of Ashford’s under-10 Orange team, Fabian Cozett said it’s a great way to end off a season filled with hard work and a second-to-none spirit

“The boys, they all worked hard during the year. I suppose, playing a final is proof of what you put in. I believe the boys played well and won the final with hard work,” he said.

“So we can always look forward to the next year. It’s a learning curve for all the teams. We pray we can keep these youngsters off the streets. Football is a safe space and that is all we as coaches try and do,” said Cozett.
