It might just be early days into the club cricket season, but the University of the Western Cape’s cricket team has clinched its first silverware of the 2024/2025 season.
The students beat Durbanville by four wickets in a closely contested final of the Western Province’s T20 Community Cup at the Wally Wilson Oval on Sunday.
However, they will not be representing the WP in the Western Cape play-offs. The competition is only open to community clubs as the universities play in their own competition at national level. But the WP association uses the series as part one of their competition structure.
Durbanville will now compete against the South Western Districts champions, Pacaltsdorp United and Paarl who on Saturday beat Van der Stel to claim the Boland title. The play-offs are scheduled for this weekend at the Durbanville sports complex.
Durbanville beat the Western Province Cricket Club in the semi-final by three wickets while Udubz beat Claremont by six wickets.
