Boundary Table Tennis Club's Tamika van As, 12, from Bonteheuwel and a Grade 7 pupil at Athlone North Primary School, was crowned under-15 and senior champion at the weekend's junior and senior club championships, hosted by Duinefontein Table Tennis Club, at Fairview Primary School, in Grassy Park.
In the semi-finals, she beat Top Table Tennis Club's Shiloh Smith 3-0 before taking on Caitlyn May in Sunday's senior women's finals. A tight 3-2 win against May was enough to secure the title, and her name was written in the history books as the youngest player to win a senior singles club title.

It's been a busy year for the youngster as she represented the country Commonwealth table tennis tournament in Botswana in the girls under-13 division and was also crowned under -13 and under-15 girls' champion at last year's Johannesburg Open.
Young Tamika also made it to the senior women semi final at the Johannesburg Open. She repeated her performance Umgungundlovu Open in Pietermaritzburg earlier this year, winning the girls' under-15 section and was a finalist in the senior women's division.
