The Western Province Rugby Football Union Score Club Rugby Sevens ended dramatically at City Park on Saturday, where False Bay edged out Primrose 10-5 in an intense final that required extra time to determine the champion.

The three-week tournament, involving 40 of the union’s leading sevens clubs, delivered fast-paced rugby and culminated in a tightly contested final, where a physical and tactical battle played out. Both sides displayed disciplined defence and sharp attacking intent. Primrose struck first through Ighsaan Petersen, to set up a tense second half when Daniel Dayaram levelled matters to send the match into extra time, sudden death.

It was during this period that False Bay’s speedster Courtney February provided the decisive moment, using his pace to exploit space and outstrip the defence for the match-winning try. His effort sparked celebrations among the False Bay contingent.

Earlier, False Bay booked their place in the final after overcoming a resilient Tygerberg outfit in the semifinals, while Primrose advanced by defeating Villagers in a competitive encounter.

Elsewhere in the men’s divisions, Durb-Bell secured the Plate, while Hamilton claimed the Shield. Kuils River walked away with the Bowl title, ensuring a strong showing from several of the union’s strong community clubs.

The annual tournament once again reinforced the importance of sevens rugby for club player development and the broader rugby landscape of the region.
