The Cricket South Africa (CSA) Hubs Tournament is drawing to its business end with Gugulethu and Tygerberg preparing to fight for top honours in the final next Sunday..
Gugulethu beat Helderberg Cricket Hub in the semi-finals thanks to some good batting by Mbulelo Dube in the middle order, at Florida Park’s field B.
Tygerberg, on field A, outmastered Ottoman Cricket Hub, thanks to a 100 runs by captain Luke Moses.
Nine hubs from across the province participated in the tournament since the beginning of the month.
Coordinator of the tournament, Lusindiso Maliwa said the champions will go on to the champ-of-champs tournament to be played in Gauteng in April.
Gugulethu’s coach, Nicholas Mpulu said the tournament is a great opportunity for the youngsters to showcase their talents.
Tygerberg’s coach, Billy Gilbert is impressed by his sides performance throughout the tournament.
“Due to the situations we find ourselves living in, normally this tournament takes place as a national week where all regional performance centres have a national team up in Pretoria. But due to the Covid19 pandemic, they made it a regional hubs knockout tournament where all the boys play against each other.
“In the Western Province we have the most clubs and the winners will play the winners of Boland, SWD and the winners of that will then represent the Western Cape,” he said.
Gilbert said he enjoyed the game and he believes the boys enjoyed it too.
“The guys who normally play on a Saturday for the RPC are now playing against each other. It is good fun for the youngsters showcasing their talent and enhancing their skills with similar players,” he said.
“Before we warmed up I sat him down and asked him to tell me what his (Luke) responsibilities were. He is the captain and he was leading from the front,” said coach Gilbert.
Tygerberg will face Gugulethu in the final on Sunday. The venue is still to be confirmed. For more information, contact Lusindiso Maliwa on 062 174 3230.
