No records were broken in the 21st edition of the Axxess Landmark’s Half Marathon, hosted by WPCC Running and Top Events, in ideal running conditions with a light early morning breeze, in Rondebosch, on Sunday.
Tymebank Langa Athletic Club runners dominated the men’s 21km race with Edward Jack crossing the finish line first, followed by teammates Duane Fortuin and William Kaptein in second and third place respectively. Jack finished in 1hr06min26sec, Fortuin in 1hr07min50sec and Kaptein came in at 1hr09min45sec.
The women’s race was a closely contested affair, won by Atlantic Athletic Club’s Betha Sitarika in 1hr24min08sec, followed by Boxer’s Nicola Wills in 1hr24min21sec and third-placed finisher, Langa runner Alexa Townsend, in 1hr2458sec.
More than 1 600 runners registered for Sunday’s 21km run, with race beneficiary, the Amy Foundation, receiving R25 000.
