Hurricanes Netball Club, from Langa, hosted their first annual junior and senior tournament at the Langa sports complex, at the weekend.
The club, founded two years ago, brought together a mix of young and old, while enjoying a weekend out, basking in the sun.
The teams included Sundowns Netball Club, Brand New Stars, Seabirds Netball Club, 7455 Langa Netball, Goldhill Legends Netball Club, PPG Langa and a couple of mixed men and women’s teams, to name a few.
Player and coach at Hurricane Netball Club, Kholisa Kokoma, said the tournament is a fund-raiser to kick-start the club's season next year.
“It is a good initiative for everyone to be out on the field again. This tournament is the first of many. We plan to have an annual event with more teams and spectators in the near future,” said Kokoma.
Sundowns Netball Club from Delft were the junior champs, while Goldhill Netball Club from Mitchell’s Plain were the senior champs.
For 53-year-old player and coach, Vure Lande, playing netball is more than just a game, but a way of life. She has been playing since she was a young girl and has not stopped since.
During the tournament, Lande played in the senior team for 7455 Langa Netball Club. She was energetic, experienced and excited throughout the tournament. “I started playing netball when I was a young girl. I am 53 but can still run around well,” she said.
