It’s interesting to note that Nasreddine Nabi has been in charge of Kaizer Chiefs for 22 matches, the exact same number as the previous interim coach Cavin Johnson which saw him exit stage left.
Traditionally, Chiefs fans are not a patient bunch. The previous two coaches Molefi Ntseki and Johnson both were subject to missiles been thrown onto the field in their direction as results didn’t go their way.
Chiefs finished 10th on the log last season, and though the consensus is that they’re playing much better football this term, they’re not much higher on the Betway Premiership log in eighth position.
In fact, Chiefs are now 29 points behind table-toppers Mamelodi Sundowns as they hurtle towards an eighth league title in a row.
It’s also been 10 years since the Soweto Giants won the league, and that also does not sit well with their fans.
Though there are definite signs of encouragement for Chiefs, it’s doubtful whether their fans will be prepared to wait for long-term improvement.
Nabi, meanwhile, sensing a growing discontent among the club’s supporters was vocal on the matter in the wake of his side’s 1-0 loss to Sundowns over the weekend.
“Our team is in the process of building itself, and I believe that the prestige of our name, the players feel it,” Nabi told SuperSport TV.
“That’s why when you look at the league standings, there is a huge gap, but when you look on the field today, you couldn’t tell the difference. That’s why I believe that we are on the right track in making the team better and will have better outcomes in the future.”
