The weekend was a bag of mixed results for Ottoman Cricket Club’s Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) Premier League side.
Ottoman lost to Brackenfell on Saturday February 1, and bounced back to winning ways against Milnerton Cricket Club the next day.
Against Brackenfell, Ottoman surrendered a five wicket advantage to lose the match by 25 runs.
In 22.2 overs, Brackenfell were down to 59/5. A partnership between Goodwill Mamiyo (14 runs off 31 balls) and Jaco Castle (50 runs of 82 balls) helped Brackenfell to post a score of 158/10 in 49 overs.
Ottoman had a patient start to their batting, with Taariq Behardien scoring 59 runs off 99 balls. As soon as he was dismissed, the wickets began to tumble.
Ottoman went from 23 runs for three wickets in five overs to 128 runs, all-out, in 42.3 overs. It was good bowling by Brackenfell that slowed down Ottoman.
Coach Farhaan Behardien’s side played well, however, they lost by 25 runs to Brackenfell.
On Sunday, February 2, they redeemed themselves against a wounded Milnerton Cricket Club.
Captain Mujahid Toffar scored his second century since the beginning of the year.
Last week, he was run-out for 99 runs in their 33-runs win against Green Point.
On Sunday, Toffar made sure. He scored 117 runs off 142 balls. His teammate, Ishmaeel Prince, on the other hand, scored 58 runs.
Ottoman reached a total of 258/7 runs in 50 overs, while limiting Milnerton to 235/8 in 50 overs
Milnerton’s Justin Du Toit got an impressive 58 runs, but it was a little too late, as Ottoman won by 23 runs.
In sixth position, Ottoman’s next challenge will be against log-leaders, Western Province Cricket Club, at the Walley Wilson Oval, on Saturday, February 8.
