The Tour D Plain 2016 is an annual non-competitive community cycling tour running through Mitchell’s Plain and Khayelitsha, starting at the Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital and finishing at the Strandfontein Pavilion. It consists of a 50km, 20km and a 3km junior tour. The event aims at raising mass awareness around leukaemia and cancer with the beneficiary being The Sunflower Fund. The event takes place on Saturday April 30 and Sunday May 1.
Registration takes place at Strandfontein Pavilion on the Saturday. All entrants can collect their numbers and information packs between 10am and 5.30pm and must bring proof of payment and identification.
No collections of numbers will be dealt with on Sunday. The entertainment proceedings will include, on both days, an indoor exhibition, live stage performances by top South African artists, food stalls, kid’s entertainment, carnival rides, great fun for the entire family and fantastic prizes to be won valued at over R300 000. The 3km junior tour is a much-anticipated event targeting children under the age of 11 and will take place on registration day. Junior race numbers will be available from Monday April 25 to Friday April 29, between 10am and 4pm.
Entry forms for the junior 3km tour can be found on the website. Tour day is on Sunday morning, starting at 5.45am.
Parking is available at the Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital. A shuttle services will operate throughout the day. The event will also have services present such as traffic, law enforcement, Metro Police, SAPS, disaster management, medics and private security throughout the enclosed route making sure that everyone enjoys a safe and entertaining ride. All spectators are asked to park at Strandfontein high and primary schools on both days. Shuttle services will transport you to the venue and back throughout the day. There is no parking at the venue.There will be bicycles for rent at the Strandfontein Pavilion. This service will only be available on Saturday, from 10am until 5pm.
